Galileo Galilei’s birthday

Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) was a Renaissance astronomer, physicist, philosopher, and mathematician who was famous for championing the view that the sun was the centre of the Universe and not the Earth, as was thought at the time. For these views, he was imprisoned by the Inquisition and remained under house arrest until his death.
