Coming Out Day
Coming Out Day is an annual LGBT awareness day observed in the UK, the US, Ireland, Switzerland and the Netherlands on 11 October. The aim of the day is to promote the idea that the best activism to ensure LGBT rights and recognition is in the act of coming out to family and friends, and living life as an openly LGBT person. The idea is that if people in wider society are aware that they have loved ones who are LGBT, they are less likely to hold homophobic, biphobic, transphobic or oppressive views.
